Hence, in the historical conditions of our origin, our spiritual orientation finds its expression in the devotion to the Sacred Heart.
As we were meditating the project of our establishment, and that we had with ardor and perseverance implored the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, dear Sister Marie and I, we asked God to let us know under what title would please Him most that the good work be consecrated to Him and we felt inspired to consecrate it to the divine Heart of Jesus and to give the Sisters the title of The Daughters of the Charity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.”

Father Catroux and Mother Marie designated the innermost part of Jesus, the center of His being where God and humanity embrace, the source where originates His thoughts, dispositions, feelings and actions, the fountain where all find the source of their salvation, the unlimited source of all graces for us and for the whole Church.
The mystery of God’s nearness, of God dwelling among us, is realized in the Heart of Jesus. He is the center toward which everything converges and where the alliance between God and mankind takes place.

The heart in the Bible
« C’est à la Bible qu’il nous faut recourir pour connaître le Foyer originaire qui nous donne vie. Quand la Bible emploie le mot cœur c’est, le plus souvent, de nous-mêmes qu’elle parle, c’est à nous-mêmes qu’elle s’adresse. Le mot cœur désigne alors ce qu’il y a de plus profond en nous. Il désigne ce centre de nous-mêmes dont nous faisons l’expérience quand nous disons “je” ; ce centre d’où jaillit et notre vie corporelle et notre vie spirituelle indissolublement unies l’une l’autre.
